Pitcher Don Newcombe & Jackie Robinson Breaking Barriers (Video)
Jackie Robinson made history in 1947 when he became the first African American to be allowed to play baseball in the major leagues. Still, in some cities the Black players were not allowed to stay in the same hotels as their white teammates. Seven years after Robinson broke the Color Line Dodgers pitcher Don Newcombe challenged that practice. Big Newk told me about it in an interview I did for SportsNet LA several years before he passed away in 2019.
